SCULLY: Well, no, what happened was that we fell off of something that …

SCULLY: … that rose out of the ice.
MULDER: Well what do you think that was?
SCULLY: Well, I don’t know what it was. But we never got, we didn’t actually get to see-
MULDER: Was it a spaceship?
SCULLY: -a spaceship.
MULDER: I can’t believe that you’re saying it’s not a spaceship.
SCULLY: Well, it couldn’t have been a spaceship.
MULDER: Course it was a spaceship.
SCULLY: Well, we don’t know it was a spaceship - But you don’t have a picture of it or anything.
MULDER: I have my memory
MULDER: You know it was a spaceship. You saw it.
SCULLY: No, no, no, no, remember, I was unconscious and when I woke up there was no spaceship.
MULDER: Now, come on, Scully. It was a spaceship.
SCULLY: Mulder, n-n-n-no.
SCULLY: And you were frozen, and I hugged you until you were not frozen anymore…. (Their voices trail off.)
Can we just talk about this whole scene for a minute. You guys know I was a bad fan and never fully watched seasons 8 and 9 and so I’m seeing this for the first time and I’m first like Oh they are such a cute couple! And then I’m like, awww look at Mulder’s face when Doggett assumes it’s time for the baby to come. And then THERES THIS AWESOME PIECE OF FAN FARE and I realize that this whole episode Agent Harrison was lowkey one of us if we tried to do an X-file, and then Mulder and Scully are all coupley and bickering and it’s so funny and I screamed at the screen really loudly and yelled, “I COULD RIP MY SKIN OFF THIS IS SO GOOD!!” And now I’m just like every other crazy person on tumblr. The end.

In s8 xfiles, it makes total sense that Scully is now the believer to Doggett’s skeptic, but I do find it OOC when Scully spots little details and comes up with insane theories that Mulder’s usually the one to spot out. Not saying that she isn’t capable of spotting those things, but like, noticing claw marks on the top of the door frame, or thinking that perhaps a small person may be stowing away inside of people, feels very Mulder-ish. It seems like the writers needed her to literally be our stand-in Mulder, for a bit. you know?

Aside from Gillian Anderson being incredible, it’s actually makes everything make sense. I skipped a few lines, but she’s basically saying that she’s suggesting these outrageous ideas because she’s trying to see it from Mulder’s point of view to solve these cases. And I love that she has this breakdown, because it’s probably all her internal turmoil. Of course she wants to say, “This doesn’t make any fucking sense” but she can’t. She’s got to be Mulder. She’s got to think different to really understand.
